The blue room -- so named after a Juliet Binoche movie about a composer -- is completed. Please see the gallery detailing its progress!

As you'll see, I've not implemented any industry-grade baffling or reinforcement in the room. Rather, I'm arranging the room with more traditional decor that will provide reasonable acoustic reinforcement, at least insofar as creating an environment that works well for production. The current furnishings are surprisingly absorbent.

If I were operating a commercial outfit, I'd take this more seriously. But, since it's my space (and a guest room), I'd rather look at paintings and great woodwork than foam tiles and bass traps (!)

this project took us the better part of a year to complete, doing it ourselves and both working day jobs (my wife is a grad student), doing other home projects and me playing/touring on the side with a band.
The project involved:
1 - pulling up old carpet
2 - stripping two layers of paint and at least as many layers of varnish off all the woodwork: baseboards, two doors, two windows, and frames (i'm still trying to find the first shot i took of the room before we got to work). This required the use of some nasty, semi-paste stripper. There is also a type of paper-based strip on the market that adheses to the wood and then pulls off paint, varnish, etc., after sitting for awhile, though I understand it's equally as nasty.
